On top of exploring Lanzarote’s landscape, you can enjoy the relentlessly vibrant atmosphere of the family-friendly beachside resorts, test your nerves with exhilarating water sports, discover the island’s cultural history or simply bask in the sun. About Lanzarote

Fun packed days in Lanzarote

From the moment you arrive at any one of our villas in Lanzarote, you’ll never be short of exciting things to do, because although it’s modest in size, the island of Lanzarote has heaps to offer. Water sport enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice, with everything from jet skiing to catamaran excursions to keep them busy, while fishing trips and dolphin-watching provides something a little more relaxed. If you’re looking for an activity the kids are guaranteed to love, look no further than Aquapark Costa Teguise. This fun-filled water park features all kinds of slides, rapids and whirlpools – everything for a fun day out! Another fantastic place to visit from your Lanzarote villa is the Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park. Here you’ll find magnificent birds of prey alongside beautiful sea lions and many other types of animals. There are pony rides, a splash pool and kids can even have a go at cowboy lessons. For the discerning golfers amongst you, a villa in Lanzarote is just the place to be spending your holiday. You can spend the day golfing at Lanzarote Golf in Puerto del Carmen or Costa Teguise Golf, soaking up the wonderful sunshine as you go.

Shop in local style in Lanzarote

A holiday just wouldn’t be a holiday without a spot of shopping, and when you stay in a villa in Lanzarote you’ll be able to do just that. Many of the main resorts house large shopping centres where you’ll find your favourite retail chains, and enjoy fantastic savings thanks to tax-free shopping. Costa Teguise, Play Blanca, Puerto del Carmen and Playa Honda are especially popular. Make your way to any of the smaller resorts, away from the hustle and bustle, for stylish boutiques where you can shop for unique items and traditional gifts to take back home. Discover the winding, narrow streets of Arrecife, and the many quaint shops that line them. Here you can purchase hand-made lace, table cloths, local art, leather goods and more. Throughout the year, various markets are held, selling everything from local produce to hand-crafted jewellery. These lively markets are a great opportunity to find unusual items and nab yourself a bargain, too! Teguise market is the island’s oldest and largest open-air market, and is a lovely way to spend a Sunday morning away from your villa. The whole town comes alive and the atmosphere is buzzing as people search through the goods, trying to find the perfect purchase.

Hit the Beach in Lanzarote

Crystal clear waters, sandy stretches that go for miles and picturesque coves – it’s fair to say that Lanzarote’s beaches are a real delight. Whether you’re a dedicated sun-worshipper or an all-day-swimmer, you’ll hear the call of the beach from your Lanzarote villa and you definitely won’t be able to resist. To the north, Costa Teguise is the perfect spot for windsurfing, while nearby La Santa beach and Famara beach are where you’ll find surfers and body boarders catching waves. Costa Teguise and La Santa boast calm waters, making them perfect for beginners, while Famara has slightly larger waves for those who are more advanced. If you want a beach that’s in the heart of it all, head to Puerto del Carmen, a lively beach on Lanzarote’s south coast. This family-oriented beach is surrounded by excellent restaurants, bars and facilities – just what you need for a family day out. Kids will love splashing around in the shallows, and you’ll love reading your favourite book on the sandy shores. Everyone wins! Another amazing beach in Lanzarote is Playa Blanca. Playa Blanca translates to ‘white beach’ and when you visit, it’s easy to see why it’s been given this name. White sands stretch out invitingly before you. It’s a genuine paradise. From here, you can take a ferry across to Fuerteventura and explore what this neighbouring island has to offer.

Sights to see in Lanzarote

Although it may be hard to drag yourself away from your fantastic villa in Lanzarote, this wonderful island has so much natural beauty, and so many amazing places just waiting to be explored. From natural wonders to cultural monuments, you simply must spend few days, at least, checking out some of the island’s most captivating sites. Head to Jameos del Agua, in the north of the island, and prepare to be wowed by the beautiful salt water lagoon and underground caves. Make your way into the caves and you’ll not only see stalagmites and stalactites, but you’ll find a unique cave concert hall. Wow! If you want to see what years of volcanic activity look like on the surface, the best place to go is the Timanfaya National Park. Even though the volcano beneath is dormant, you can still feel its heat due to temperatures of 400°C-600°C which can be found just a few metres below the surface! Special demonstrations are held at the very top, and you can also spend time exploring the craters that are over one hundred years old, as well as the breath-taking active geysers of the Fire Mountains. It’s sure to be an experience you remember forever. Lanzarote’s culture can be appreciated at every turn, with monuments and museums dotted all around the island. The Museo del Campesino is an absolute must-see. This attraction includes a 15 metre sculpture constructed from the designs of well-known local artist and architect César Manrique, and a life-size reconstruction of a traditional farm. There’s also a tapas bar and restaurant, so you can grab a bite to eat during your visit.

James recommends
  • Explore the vast Sahara sand beaches around the Punta de Papagayo peninsular in the South.
  • Take a trip to Fire Mountain and have a barbecue with a difference. Forget charcoal – your steak will be cooked by the natural heat of the volcano.
  • The aqua park at Costa Tequise makes for a fun-packed day and a great way for the kids to cool off.
  • Visit Fundación César Manrique, the Lanzarote artist’s home, built in volcanic bubbles in the rock, which is now an art gallery housing works by Picasso, Miró and many more.
  • Take a glass-bottomed catamaran to Fuerteventura and look out for pods of playful dolphins on the way.
  • Explore the Cueva de los Verdes and Jameos del Agua - with an underground lake and a stunning complex of caves and galleries
  • Try the fantastic new golf course, Lanzarote Golf. This is a challenging 18 hole, par 72 course, designed by Ron Kirby
  • Take a trip to the old Capital of Teguise to visit the extensive local market which is held every Sunday morning
