It is a quiet and relaxing place. However, the lively tourist centres of Poreč and Rovinj, the beaches, the clear sea and numerous sights are just a short drive away. Central Istria is known for its landscape of small, picturesque, medieval towns that are irresistibly reminiscent of Tuscany or Provence. Central Istria also boasts a rich cultural heritage.
Sveti Petar u Sumi was named after an early 12th-century Benedictine monastery, but for centuries it belonged to the Paulines – the ‘white monks’. It is an unusual Istrian village. Unlike other Istrian villages and towns, where settlements are perched on a hill, Sv. Petar u Sumi lies on a rolling plateau, surrounded by ancient forests. There is an 18 km-long cycle path in the surrounding area, which takes visitors through unspoilt countryside. Another attraction is the 4.2 km-long Krizni put walking trail, featuring 14 stations with stone sculptures depicting religious motifs. Sveti Petar u Sumi hosts numerous events that attract many visitors every year. The best known is the sausage market, where the traditional sausage-making championship takes place. Not far from the villa, there are numerous tavernas where you can sample the finest Istrian delicacies. We recommend visiting other tourist destinations, such as the coastal towns of Pula and Rovinj, and the medieval towns of Motovun and Buzet in Central Istria.
Road links are excellent. The motorway takes you to Pula or Trieste airports.
