When to go to Spain

Spain has a Mediterranean climate with fantastic, hot summers. It gets particularly warm in July and August so if you love the sunshine this is the best time to go. Temperatures can reach between 30 and 35 degrees Celsius in August, so make sure you pack your sun cream.

If you want to visit when it’s a bit quieter and cooler, head to Spain in September or October, or between April and May, for a spring break away.

Cultural highlights

Spanish culture conjures up images of flamenco dancers, tapas and amazing beach resorts. However, if you explore this fantastic country you will see it has a lot more to offer. Spain will surprise you with its medieval castles, monuments, intricate architecture and artistic influences.

Explore Andalucia, and follow the Senderos trails to discover stunning examples or Roman and Moorish architecture, which fills the area’s landscape. If you’re looking to explore a city with character, then Barcelona is a good choice. Wander around its breathtaking sites such as La Sagrada Família, Casa Batlló, and other examples of Gaudi’s work, which are some of the most popular tourist attractions in the country.

Not to be missed

  • Explore Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter; it’s home to many restaurants, shops along La Rambla, as well as stunning churches and architecture, such as Barcelona Cathedral.
  • Enjoy thrilling water rides and a fun day out at one of Spain’s many fantastic water parks. Plenty of destinations host water parks, including Costa Del Sol and Costa Dorada.

  • The Spanish island of Ibiza is an amazing place to enjoy a hike, so be sure to follow the paths that cover the grassy cliffs and mountainous hills of the island.
  • Head to Timanfaya National Park, in Lanzarote, where you can explore this volcanic wasteland, taking in its stark beauty in contrast with the stunning views of the island below.
