October might just be the perfect month for your villa getaway. Our faint hopes of a late Indian Summer begin to fizzle out, with the nights seeming to get longer every day. As Halloween approaches we're hit with the scary realisation that summer is well and truly over for another year. We're doomed to be as pale as a ghost for the foreseeable future. Or are we? The sun is still shining away in plenty of European countries and further afield, so why not consider an October villa holiday? In Cyprus the average monthly temperature is 27 degrees! It's around the same in the Canaries too. Malta is marginally milder, while the Balearics and some Greek islands offer over 20 degree temperatures. Swap puddles for pools and autumn leaves for golden beaches with an October villa holiday.

Top up your tan and head home with a beaming smile – you’ll be shining brighter than any lantern after your October villa holiday. Take the hassle out of planning your autumn adventure with our handy guide on where to go in October.
October in Mallorca is a lot more laid-back. The crowds of the summer months have dispersed and there’s less hustle and bustle. This is the perfect time for some rest and relaxation. Especially as you’ll have your pick of all the best beach spots to enjoy average temperatures of 23°C. Cooler than the summer months, this is also your chance to discover more than just the golden beaches. Trek through the Tramuntana Mountains, brimming with natural beauty and fascinating villages. Or perhaps head to Palma, Mallorca’s fascinating capital. Often drawing comparisons to Barcelona, it really ticks all those city break boxes! An old town, stunning architecture, narrow streets and plenty of charm – Palma packs it all in. Rambling the streets you’d be forgiven for thinking you were on Las Ramblas.
Average temperatures of 22°C and plenty more deserted beaches, could Kefalonia be the king of October holiday destinations? If you’ve had your fill of beaches over the summer, you’ll be pleased to know that there’s lots to see and do on this amazing Greek island. Take it in on two wheels with your very own cycling tour of the island. From the beautiful bays to the picturesque towns, see it all your way. A cool October breeze makes the ride a lot more comfortable too.
It’s also the ideal month for perusing the monuments, as that cooler climate makes exploring historic Kefalonia much more pleasant. Sami’s ancient acropolis is home to the ruins of the city and monastery, with views over the beautiful bay below. Why not take one of the scenic trails to the top? If you’re still craving a little shade, head to Melissani Cave – home to an amazing underground lake. Cool down with a boat trip break from the sun in this Kefalonian gem.
Roam around Rhodes Old Town on your October villa holiday. Wander the cobbled streets, admiring the Ottoman, medieval and Byzantine architecture. Surrounded by imposing defensive walls, you’ll soon understand how it has stood the test of time so well. If there’s only so much history you can handle, head inland and find a different side to Rhodes. It’s another October destination that’s perfect for trekking and hiking. Get back to nature, exploring the island’s mountainous terrain and pine forests. The Valley of the Butterflies is particularly beautiful – home to a variety of plants and animal life.
