Mykonos wrote the rule book on elegance and extravagance and is fast becoming the European epicentre of gay culture. Nowhere on this idyllic island is out of bounds – everyone is welcome everywhere. Open-minded locals and the famous Greek hospitality mean you'll be able to relax and be yourself. Boasting a legendary nightlife that's concentrated in the centre of Mykonos Town itself, get ready to dance the night away in one of the most cosmopolitan areas in all of Greece.
A basic requirement for most holidaymakers is the beach. Fortunately in Mykonos' case the place is packed with paradisiacal possibilities that don't disappoint! Whatever your perfect beach day looks like, you can enjoy swimming, sunbathing, sunset strolls, parties and watersports aplenty. Beaches on Mykonos are enjoyed by all, but two of the most popular LGBT hotspots are found (very handily) within close proximity to one another.
The coveted Jackie O' beach is the up and coming star of the scene, taking its name from the nearby Jackie O' gay bar – the most popular on the entire island! Whether it's getting involved with themed parties, enjoying the delicious dining experience, or just a simple cocktail at the pool bar – there's something for everyone. This beach is an irresistible blend of chic and chill mixed with effortless glamour and charm. Plus, if you enjoy people watching – you won't do better!
From party central to peaceful, Elia beach is the longest stretch of sand in all of Mykonos. With a whole host of beachside bars and tavernas, as well as wet and wild watersports – there's plenty to keep everyone happy all day. Unlike Jackie O', Elia is a much quieter spot to enjoy the sizzling sunshine. Expect to see every kind of sun-worshipper out in force, and slip into a relaxed state of holiday bliss.
Whether you're after a tan top-up on sands adorned with umbrellas and sunbeds, or an oasis of tranquillity among wild and unspoiled landscapes – magical Mykonos' always delivers! Other unmissable beaches include Psarou, Panormos and Kalafatis. The latter is a paradise for both watersports and families.
You can find anything your heart desires when it comes to nightlife on this gorgeous Greek getaway. From high class cocktail bars in upscale areas to all-night dance raves and party places. One thing is for sure, wherever you go it'll be glamorous! There's countless options to suit all tastes, with some of the most popular popping up in picture-perfect Chora. No wonder it's often said Mykonos buzzes with the best nightlife in all of Greece. Little Venice is loaded with quirky little bars and trendy, atmospheric spots to watch the sunset.
XLSIOR International Summer Festival is two weeks of open-air outdoor parties, international DJs and people from all over the world celebrating the universal language of music. Rainbow flags fly with pride at the decedent, dynamic and luxurious LGBT event. Held annually at the end of August in stunning settings and breathtaking venues – it's a one of a kind experience!
The waterfront of Little Venice is one of the most romantic places on Mykonos. Meander through charming, traditional streets and explore the countless boutiques and beautiful bars. White washed houses with brightly painted blue doors, balconies and banisters pop against the stone paved streets. A total paradise for photographers – it's virtually impossible to take a bad picture! Sunsets here are unmissable and the best on the whole island, enjoy dinner or a drink while watching the golden ball sink into the horizon.
High above Chora the iconic windmills of the Cyclades sit on rolling hills. Another romantic must-see, you have the Venetians to thank for these gorgeous Greek landmarks. Head up the hill for jaw-dropping views over Mykonos Town or hop on a boat and soak up the sights set against the skyline from the sea. However you visit, be sure to make the most of these traditional trademarks.
History buffs and culture vultures should set course for the nearby island of Delos. An amazing archaeological treasure trove, it holds the remains of a sanctuary to the gods Apollo and Artemis and is considered to be one of Greece's most important historical sites. UNESCO have echoed that claim, and Delos has been a World Heritage Site since 1990. You'll find statues, theatres, temples, ruins and mosaics scattered across the little island. Boat tours run daily in the summer months from Mykonos, so it's easy to explore Delos on your own steam. Self-guided walking tours are available to all visitors, but you can always opt for a guided tour if you'd rather let someone else do all the organising. You're on holiday after all!
