Destinations for Your Summer Getaway

Cactus and volcanic landscape in Lanzarote

Lanzarote

You can leave the tablets and smartphones back at the villa; Lanzarote is the perfect place to get back to nature. Your family’s opportunity for a digital detox! The island’s unique landscape makes it ideal for walking, discovering and adventuring. Take your children on a real life geography lesson exploring the extinct volcanoes and craters.

Head underground into the volcanic tunnels and caves. Locals once used these tunnels to take refuge from pirates and invaders and your kids will learn more about Lanzarote’s history here. If their ears pricked up at the mention of pirates, set a course for the piracy museum. Your little bandits will find a treasure chest of information. They'll learn so much without even realising - much easier than getting them to do their homework.

Quite different but no less entertaining is a visit to Dinosauria Park, a prehistoric playground for inquisitive young minds. They’ll find more than just fossils! Its cinemas and play areas make for the perfect day out.

Crete’s family friendly beaches are also ideal for children. Balos Lagoon has shallow waters perfect for kids to splash about in. Or watch their eyes light up as they first catch a glimpse of Elafonisi beach, home to mesmerising pink sand. Wherever you choose, you'll find enough spectacular scenery to fill your memory card.

Fuerteventura

Are your little ones fascinated by the animal kingdom? Fuerteventura should have them bright eyed and bushy tailed. Head off to Oasis Park, the island's only zoo. Here they'll find fascination in the hippos, African elephants, reptiles and birds of prey. But be warned, you’re likely to learn lots of new animal trivia! You'll see your kid’s cogs start turning as you take in one of the educational shows.

If you’re setting off in search of beaches, Fuerteventura won’t disappoint. You’ll find 340 kilometres of coastline. Blessed with crystal clear water and sands ranging from black to white, it's easy for your family to find a secluded spot. Don’t miss the Saharan-like dunes at Corralejo. Not only are they seriously impressive to look at, the kids can continue their animal encounters on a camel safari.
