Situated in the Costa Adeje area, Playa Fanabe is a pretty resort packed with things to do. The town centre has a bustling promenade with bars and restaurants, whilst a sandy beach offers numerous watersport activities. There are also a number of good golf courses close to Playa Fanabe, the nearest of which, La Caleta, is just a five minute drive from the resort. Also worth a visit is the fantastic shopping centre of Gran Sur, packed with shops, a cinema and a supermarket.

Tenerife is known for it's fish dishes, including Cherne (wreckfish), sama (red sea bream), vieja (parrot fish), dorado (gilthead sea bream), choco (cuttlefish), and pulpo (octopus) to name a few!
Aside from fish, a dish not to be missed is Cabra con papas, which translates as Goat with potatoes or fries!
Another main dish that you will often see is papas arrugadas (wrinkled potatoes), also known as Canarian potatoes. Cooked in salt with their skins still on, they are simple and flavoursome when served with mojos (dipping sauces).

Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas are well-known for their bright lights, bars, music and discos. You will also find plenty of family friendly entertainment and lots of restaurants to suit all palates.
Puerto Colon, in Costa Adeje, is an idyllic harbour where you can stroll along browsing the pavement cafes and people watch over lunch. From here, you can charter a power boat, fishing boat or hop aboard one of the dolphin and whale trips on a catamaran.
Loro park, in the north of the island, is popular for it's dolphin and orca whale shows. It is worth making a day excursion for lovers of exotic animals and plant life.
Siam Park, in Costa Adeje, is a great waterpark which opened in 2008. It makes for a great day out for families; choose an adrenaline rush on the winding chutes or relax by the Siam 'beach'. You can grab a snack here in the cafe after surfing in the largest artifical waves in Europe.
La Gomera, an unspoilt Canary island off the coast of Adeje can be visited by one of the many boat trips which depart from most of the southern resorts of Tenerife. you can explore on your own or take a jeep tour with lunch and refreshments included.
Visit the famous cathedral Candelaria, the main temple of the Canary Islands dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
Mount Teide National Park is home to the largest volcano in the whole of Spain, which last errupted in 1798. You can visit the area with a huge array of plant and insect species, surrounded by the colourful landscape created from the lava.

Goat Bathingnational event
This ancient ceremony that takes place in Puerto de la Cruz on the night of San Juan, during the summer solstice, was already popular among the Guanche people. The act involves leading a heard of over 2000 goats and some 20 horses down to the fishing dock for a dip. Originally, the tradition was intended to prepare the livestock for mating. You'll need to get up bright and early if you want to catch a glimpse of the animals bathing.

El Socorro Pilgri...national event
This pilgrimage takes place in Güímar and is the longest-standing not only in Tenerife but in the entire Canary Islands. On 7 September every year, pilgrims journey all the way from the Church of San Pedro in the town centre to the chapel of the Virgin on the beach of El Socorro. In the afternoon, a celebration commemorates the moment when the virgin of Nuestra Señora del Socorro appeared to the Guanche people on the beach of Chimisay. On the following day, the figure of the virgin is once again carried to the town and returned to the church of San Pedro

This traditional ceremony takes place on the evening of 29 November. Young and not-so-young adrenaline-seekers clamber onto wooden boards and slide down the steep street of Calle del Plano in Icod de los Vinos. Adding to the whooshing and crashing of the boards is the sweet smell of young wine. Under the moonlight, grape harvesters pop open their wines from the latest vintage in a ritual that also takes place in many other towns and villages
