An introduction to Puerto del Carmen

The main holiday resort of Lanzarote, Puerto del Carmen is just fifteen kilometres from the island’s capital town Arrecife. A wide, sandy beach, little rocky coves and a diving school line the coastline, while a great selection of restaurants, bars and cafés can be found at the harbour. Live entertainment, cocktail bars and night-clubs, as well as restaurants and café bars, are all positioned along a central avenue. Of our wide selection of villas here, some are nestled in the peaceful area of Los Mojones - a short walk from the harbour – with others set much closer to the main resort in residential areas. We also have properties in the adjoining areas of Los Pocillos and Matagorda with excellent restaurants and shops.

    Food & Dining

Like most of Spanish areas Tapas is a popular dish in Lanzarote and fresh sea food is always easy to come across. Some of the more specialised dishes for the Canaries are, Papas Crías (wild potatoes) which grow on the rocky hillsides, two kinds of sauces are always served with the papas arrugadas, the spicy red mojo which is based on chillies and peppers, and the green mojo which flavoured with parsley or coriander and which is served to complement fish dishes. Gofio is another vital staple of the island’s cuisine. Made from toasted corn and maize flour.

Puerto del Carmen is the busiest and liveliest resort on the island with the widest choice of amenities and entertainment on offer. The seafront promenade - Avenida de la Playa - has everything from lively atmospheric, themed bars and nightclubs open to the early hours, to high quality international restaurants. At the west end of the resort is, the 'Old Town', a charming fishing port providing a more typical Canarian atmosphere enjoying a slower pace of living. The area of Los Pocillos is at the eastern end of the resort and tends to be a lot quieter, however it still offers a variety nocturnal activity along the beach front.
