Like most of Spanish areas Tapas is a popular dish in Lanzarote and fresh sea food is always easy to come across. Some of the more specialised dishes for the Canaries are, Papas Crías (wild potatoes) which grow on the rocky hillsides, two kinds of sauces are always served with the papas arrugadas, the spicy red mojo which is based on chillies and peppers, and the green mojo which flavoured with parsley or coriander and which is served to complement fish dishes. Gofio is another vital staple of the island’s cuisine. Made from toasted corn and maize flour.
Featuring just a few local restaurants, Macher is a quieter village set away from the hustle and bustle and provides a tranquil experience, ideal for those getting away from it all.
El Grifo is the oldest winery within the Canary Islands and among the ten oldest in Spain. This family run winery, since 1775, is well worth a visit and produces up to six hundred thousand bottles of wine per year. The museum is open all year round with guided tours available.
The Timanfaya National Park is a must see when holidaying on the island. Declared a national park back in 1968, this site was once host to more than 100 volcanoes. The restaurant in the park serves traditional Canarian food that’s cooked using a cast-iron grill placed over a large hole in the ground. There is also the option to take a camel ride across the volcanic landscape.

A fiesta packed with Canarian tradition, this is your chance to party like a local. Events take place across all 7 of the Canary Islands, celebrating the anniversary of when they first gained autonomy from Spain in 1983. Dance to traditional music, try some of the local delicacies and enjoy some the incredible events – such as Canarian wrestling.
San Juan (Saint J...national event
A celebration that marks the start of summer. The 23rd and 24th of June see bonfires lit across the island, accompanied by traditional dancing and music from local performers. Why not live like a local and roast a corn cob over the open flame?

This major fiesta is in honour of Arrecife's patron saint San Gines.
During the daytime much of the activity is concentrated around the El Charco area itself, where traditional island sports such as Canarian sailing and wrestling are celebrated and a new Miss Lanzarote is elected annually.
festivities include parades, processions and dancing in the streets of Arrecife. The whole event then culminates in an impressive and extremely well attended fireworks display on the main beach promenade next to the Arrecife Gran Hotel on the night of the 25th, usually starting at around 23.30 hrs.
