West Midlands Family (with only pre-school children)
- Our overall feelings regarding the villa were disappointment. The pictures on the web site must be pretty old. Whilst the outside space and swimming pool were lovely and had a lovely view out to sea we found the inside space to be tired, dull and dirty. Within 2 minutes of arriving our toddler had filthy hands and feet from crawling around the living area, we honestly don't believe that the villa had been swept or mopped in quite some time. We took advantage of the free high chair and travel cot offered by James Villas and soon realised that this was not as reasonable a gesture as first thought given that both were filthy, stained and had to be cleaned by ourselves prior to use by our toddler. The mattress even had a 10 euro price scrawled onto it in blue marker suggesting that this was picked up at the regular Cala en porter car boot. The next issue was the air conditioning which constantly dripped water and made dodgy noises. It even came to life during the night at times even though no timers were set which was noisy meaning we had to close the door and this made it feel much warmer. The rep suggested that this can happen if the temperature is set too low however we didn't feel that 22 degrees was an unreasonable temperature to set in such a hot climate. We were also told that someone would come to take a look but we saw nobody and the problem continued. As there were only 3 of us we didn't use the 2 back bedrooms however this was fortunate given the smell of them. We aired them as often as possible but the smell always came back once the windows were closed when we left the villa. Considering the villa could sleep 6 the hot water was a joke. For the 3 of us to be able to shower and shave prior to going out we literally had to go for record short shower times of under a couple of minutes each. I can't imagine how 6 would cope. Whilst TV is not a major issue for us a couple of kids shows to keep the toddler happy whilst we finished off getting ready to go out etc would have been nice however the Sky TV advertised was essentially challenge TV and some other unheard of freeview channels none of which were suitable for children. Not a major gripe but when you think you're paying for something you'd expect to get it. We also don't believe the villa was cleaned by anybody but ourselves during the stay but new towels were provided after a week but sadly these were old and in need of replacing. We saw the cleaners visit Maru II and they didn't appear to take any products or equipment other than a bag of towels. The mop bucket on site at our villa was not used by the cleaners. This was disappointing considering we passed a Villa Plus villa as 2 vans of cleaners turned up armed with professional kit.
The above being said we did have a lovely holiday making the most of the pool, Cala en porter itself and the amazing town of Mahon. We'll certainly return to Cala en Porter but will certainly choose another accommodation.
