San Pedro de Alcantara is the perfect resort for those looking for tourist facilities, whilst still enjoying the traditional Spanish charm. Fish restaurants, tapas
You will find a fair selection of bars and restaurants in San Pedro, within a tranquil and laid back atmosphere.
Nearby, having conserved most of their original charm, Estepona has developed into a much desired area to live in or visit with blossoming nightlight and great restaurants known for great fish dishes.
On the other side, for an even larger range of international restaurants, great bars and night clubs, head to Marbella or Puerto Banus.
A general market and rastro spread over more than 230 stalls. Particularly good for fresh produce such as fruit and vegetables.
Selwo Aventura, Estepona
A superb zoological park, Selwo Aventura takes visitors on a journey through the wilds of Africa, where lions, giraffes, hippos, rhinos, hyenas, cheetahs and antelopes are just some of the animals you’ll see. There are also Meet the Keeper sessions, educational talks, spectacular hanging bridges to walk across, dromedary rides, high jumping, zipwires and archery to keep you busy. The park is open approximately nine months of the year with a break in the winter and is around 15 minutes’ drive from El Paraíso.
Parque Aquatico Mijas
The largest water park on the Costa del Sol, Aquamijas is designed for pure fun in the sun, with a huge variety of pools offering everything from rolling waves to relaxing lagoons. There are waterslides of every shape and size to suit thrill-seekers of all ages as well as plenty of sunbathing areas, a bar and a restaurant. The park is generally open from May to September.
Not your typical water park, Aqua Arena is in fact a huge inflatable assault course moored in the sea at Golden Beach, Elviria, during the summer months. Fabulous, supervised fun for children and adults alike, the course offers a chance to challenge friends and family to leap, bounce, slide and splash your way to the finish. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult and sessions last an hour.
At the heart of the Marbella’s Old Town is the delightful Plaza de los Naranjos (Orange Tree Square), its charming alfresco restaurants shaded by leafy orange trees. The surrounding buildings are full of character, many dating from the 15th and 16th centuries and with a blend of Arabic, Gothic and Renaissance architecture. From here you can wander down numerous cobbled streets to discover dozens of individual boutiques, taps bars and cafés.
Only half an hour from Benahavis is the exclusive Puerto Banus, playground to Europe’s rich and famous. At its heart is the stunning marina that plays host to some of the world’s most spectacular superyachts, surrounded by designer boutiques, trendy bars and chic restaurants. If you feel like an occasional change of scene from the peace and quiet of Benahavis, the nightlife here is buzzing, with live music and nightclubs rocking until the early hours.
Ocean Club Marbella
At the very heart of the Costa del Sol’s sizzling party scene, Ocean Club Marbella is the place to see and be seen. With the ultimate in contemporary all-white sun beds and a magnificent salt water infinity pool taking centre stage, the club oozes luxury and beachside chic. Famed for its mouthwatering cocktails and champagne spray parties, there’s also a highly regarded restaurant serving a range of exquisite seafood and pan-European delicacies, a VIP zone, massage area, designer boutique and beauty salon. The club occupies a 9,000 square metre spot just next to the marina in the centre of Puerto Banus.
Combining a beach club, eateries and boutique style shopping, the exclusive Laguna Village is located a few minutes’ drive from El Paraiso en route to Estepona. Boasting a beach bar, spa, stunning infinity pool, Asian style day beds and sun loungers overlooking the immaculate beach, it’s a great place to chill out for the day. There are also several upmarket restaurants to choose from and as night falls it becomes a trendy party venue.
Often overlooked in favour of its more widely known neighbours Marbella and Puerto Banus, the tiny harbour of Puerto Cabopino is a picturesque spot for lunch or supper, flanked by golden beaches and pine forests. There are some excellent bars and restaurants to choose from, not to mention chic yachts and speedboats to admire.
