Dining in Mijas is a complete dream, beautifully appointed Spanish restaurants and tapas bars, some set in the hillside with spectacular sea views. Mijas is a typically Spanish resort specializing in local meats, fish and the best paella around.
Mijas offers a large selection of restaurants and bars, you can find Bingo nights, quiz evenings and Karaoke during the evenings however if you are looking for a more lively night out or to hit the clubs you are better off heading to the nearby resort Fuengirola.
La Muralla Gardens
La Muralla park and botanical gardens incorporate the old defensive walls of the town in their design. They’re located beside the Mijas bullring and offer a superb vantage point from which to admire spectacular coastal views. The 16th century Church of the Immaculate Conception is nearby and there are numerous shrines dotted about the village.
Representing a new concept of zoo, the Bioparc emphasises respect for nature and the preservation of species by recreating the natural habitats from various eco-systems around the world and encouraging the animals to live side-by-side. It’s known as an ‘immersion zoo’ where visitors can take a guided walk right through tropical woodland and discover the interaction between animals as well as learning about the environment. Open daily throughout the year, the park is in the centre of Fuengirola just a 10 minute drive from Mijas.
Parque Acuatico Mijas
The largest water park on the Costa del Sol, Aquamijas is designed for pure fun in the sun, with a huge variety of pools offering everything from rolling waves to relaxing lagoons. There are waterslides of every shape and size to suit thrill-seekers of all ages as well as plenty of sunbathing areas, a bar and a restaurant. The park is generally open from May to September.
The wine museum in Mijas specializes in the selection of wines to accompany different foods. Besides learning about the variety of grapes across Spain’s winegrowing regions, there’s an opportunity to sample from an extensive list including cava, red, white and rosé wines accompanied by carefully selected and prepared gourmet taster dishes.
Inaugurated in 1900, the unusual oval-shaped Mijas Bullring has played host to some of Spain’s most renowned bullfighters over the years, some of whom are commemorated on the tiles lining the walls. Bullfights still take place here during the summer months. There’s also a small bullfighting museum to convey the art and history of the bullfight.
