Benalmadena dining has a very laid back approach with many restaurants set on a beachfront location, enjoy meat and fish platters with tapas bars. Great choice for all the family with its variety of different cuisines.
In Benalmadena you are spoilt for choice with a wide range of restaurants and bars, enjoy evenings spent at the Puerto Marina indulging in the many sophisticated bars and restaurants there. There is an area called 24 hour square which has many nightclubs and bars for those looking to dance the night away.
Despite being right at the heart of Benalmadena, just 10 minutes’ drive from the old town, Paloma Park is a vast, wonderfully peaceful green space with grassy play areas, shady, tree-lined walkways, climbing and adventure playgrounds, and even a lake teeming with ducks and geese. It’s completely free of charge and is a perfect place to spend a day. Take a picnic lunch or you can eat at one of the park’s three cafés.
The magical Tivoli World at Benalmadena offers plenty of fun for all the family, with fairground rides, amusement stalls, go-karts, train tours and variety shows to suit visitors of all ages. Set in beautiful gardens with illuminated fountains and an array of bars and eateries to choose from, you can happily spend all evening here. Opening hours vary according to the time of year, with summer evenings open until 1am.
Selwo Marina Delfinarium
This charming park is dedicated to dolphins, sea lions and exotic birds, with entertaining and educational shows and opportunities for interactive experiences both in and out of the water, including swimming with sea lions. There’s also a delightful playground and on-site restaurants so you can take your time and explore at your own pace.
Sea Life Aquarium Benalmadena
A great family day out, the Sea Life Aquarium provides hours of fun as well as informative talks and activities based on sea life of all shapes and sizes. Sharks, giant turtles, rays and seahorses are just some of the star attractions, with a fabulous underwater tunnel offering exceptional close-up views. The centre is open daily year-round.
Birds of Prey Centre
Having reached the heights of Mount Calamorro by cable car, experience the unforgettable sight of magnificent birds of prey from the Jardín de las Aguilas centre soaring freely through the air at the command of their expert handlers. From owls, falcons and vultures to eagles, hawks and even rare condors, these wonderful exhibitions are enhanced by the spectacular backdrop of the Costa del Sol skyline. Open most afternoons throughout the year.
Benalmadena Butterfly Park
Housed in a charming building resembling a Thai temple, thousands of butterflies from all over the world flutter around the Butterfly Park’s stunning tropical garden. The centre provides a wealth of information on the life cycle, habitat and breeding programmes of a huge variety of butterfly species and is a particular delight for young children. Open daily.
Benalmadena Cable Car
An absolute must during your stay is the 15 minute cable car ride up to the peak of Mount Calamorro, 800 metres above sea level. The views of the Costa del Sol, Sierra Nevada, and even Gibraltar and the African coast on a clear day, are simply breath-taking. There are well-signposted paths and various different viewing points as well as occasional exhibitions. It’s a great way to access the area’s best hiking routes and it’s also the gateway to the excellent birds of prey centre, Jardín de las Aguilas.
A world away from beach life down on the coast, Benalmadena’s old town is a typically Andalusian pueblo with dazzling whitewashed houses, meandering cobbled streets and balconies overflowing with brightly coloured flowers. The town square, with a statue of the town symbol La Niña at its heart, is fringed with orange trees and numerous bars and restaurants while the beautiful 17th century church of Santo Domingo, with its lovely bell tower and outside viewing area, offers magnificent panoramic views over the coastline below.
Castillo Monumento Colomares
This fascinating monument to the life and discoveries of Christopher Colombus was designed by Esteban Martín Martín, an American doctor determined to pay homage locally to the great explorer. The enchanting structure incorporates dozens of intricate carvings depicting the ships, voyages and the people involved in the explorations as well as the smallest church in the world. Set in beautiful gardens with glorious sea views, it’s one of Benalmadena’s most popular attractions and is open daily.
