This was our second stay at Carmella within 10 months and we once again found it an ideal holiday location with our 4 year old. Having a gated pool is a real boon as we were able to allow him to play in the villa grounds without the worry of him straying where he shouldn't. The villa is clean and well maintained with a new oven (for this trip) and more importantly comfortable beds – although the pillows are a bit hard. If you need them, English speaking satellite channels – including CBeebies are available (thank heaven!) The only criticism we would have concerns the outside space - the villa sleeps up to six however there were only 3 sun loungers (one less than 10 months ago). We were lucky as there was only the 3 of us - would not have been happy if we'd been a larger party. The villa is ideally situated for Nerja town, the local Lidal supermarket and exploring further afield into the area. If you need any other recommendation, we are booking to go back next year.

We have been to Nerja and used James Villas a few times now and never fault them. However we do like a sea view which we had once before in Panoramica (which was spectacular) but Carmella was very pleasant.

    • Mr Marshall, May 2012

The Villa, as described, exceeded expectations and was perfect for our situation. The Balcony and main area was secure with noaccess outside the villa boundary without our control and the gated pool meant access to that area could also been controlled. This was essential with an overactive, livey and inquisitive 2 year old. I would have no hesitation in recommending this villa to any people having a young family. As to the Rep,I am used to the high standard of James when it comes to reps but she exceeded this . Unfortunately I had food poisoning on the flight over. When she found out, not only did she make her ageeed visit but made a further 3 calls during the week to ensure that there were no ongoing problems. As the villa was off the beaten track, this was obviously an intentional effort on her part and only serves to raise my appreciation both of James and the reps. If it is at all possible could my comments of appreciation be passed on to her please And yes, I will be taking more holidays with James. Keith Marshall

Please understand i had a good holiday but the sun beds have seen better days, the mini oven did not work, the dvd player's remote did not work and the dishwasher worked intermitantly and for some reason they stord a very smelly mop and bucket in the bath room cupboard ( i tracked the smell down aftter a couple of days and moved the mop outside) Th phots of the villas furniture are out of date and not what was there this was not one of the nicest vilals i have stayed at with you

    • Mr Jones, April 2010

Because of the volcano disruption we ended up staying in a different Villa for a second week, which was just up the road, but nicer than this one.

I thought it had excellent views and was handy for both the airport and the coast.

Great villa just a few things that let it down. We had to ask the rep to get the pool cleaned twice but did solve the problem in the end. As said before the double bed is old and needs replacing with a king size bed we had to sleep in separate rooms not good. You will also need to buy yourselves ant traps as this villa really suffers. One last thing that I have read in other reviews is the motorway it is not a problem and is really not that close. This is a honest review.

Loved the villa but did have issues with the road noise. Did get used to it. The villa was spotless and the owner came mid week to sort and clean the pool.

Lovely villa, great location. Plenty space for the two of us for a relaxing week away. We've been to Nerja several times so are familiar with the style of road to all the villas.......the route to Carmela is partly Tarmac and partly bumpy unmade road, however you soon get used to it. Hardly any noise from the surrounding area despite the motorway being a short distance away. The television channels were better than in some locations, with Sky News and a few British channels. An idea for future guests might be to take an ant trap as the kitchen had quite a lot milling around. We would definitely stay again at this villa.

Décor very tired, bed frame rubbish could not sleep in it;had to resort to separate beds. Not good for a romantic getaway. We have now had 4 different villas through yourselves but would not return to "Carmella".

The villa was very clean and comfortable and we enjoyed our stay, however, it should be pointed out that once leaving the main road the track to the Villa was very rough to the point of us not wanting to negotiate it. (Should be said we had a poor hire car though). One other small criticism, sleep was difficult with the constant dog barking.

Oxford Family (the eldest child is at school)
This villa has a lovely outdoor area (but see the comments on the setting relating to the motorway and the pool below), but is let down by the basic and tired interior. The internal furnishings and fittings are very basic and, in terms of the two showers and shower screens, very much in need of updating. The shower screen in the main bathroom leaked terribly and the shower in the ensuite drained very poorly, despite the owner attempting to undertake work to improve the drainage during our stay. The villa was equipped to a very basic standard, with several of the things you would expect (a laundry basket, oven gloves, an acrylic or wooden spoon to stir pans with, for example) completely lacking.

The beds and pillows were very uncomfortable - the double bed in the main bedroom creaks so much that it woke me up on several occasions when I turned over!

The pool was so murky that I was reluctant for the children to use it much, and didn't venture in myself - it certainly made finding the diving toys more of an adventure!

Whilst one review talks about the proximity of the motorway, the description of the villa (which highlights the views of the mountains and countryside) should also point out the excellent view you have of the cars and lorries on the motorway which is really very close - so close that drivers would have a good view of you wandering around outside, so didn't feel as private as we would like and expect. The vehicle noise didn't bother us, but we were surprised to see the motorway so close (and so visible).

All in all certainly wouldn't go back to Casa Carmela.

Villa Carmella offers a fantastic outdoor space and we're glad you thought so too. We've passed your feedback to our resort team, to ensure the shower is draining ok, the property is well equipped and the pool is sparkling, ready for our guests to use.

The location is too close to a busy duel carriageway and the pool was full of insects every day. Views from the outdoor area are nice. Needs air conditioning.

Thank you for your feedback. The villa offers fantastic views across the Nerja countryside and although the motorway is visible from the front terrace, it is at a fair distance as shown in the 4th photograph. This area is usually very popular as it is relatively flat and located just outside Nerja, so very convenient to go out sightseeing. We're pleased to let you know air conditioning will be available in the bedrooms from 2017.
