Enjoy some Spanish restaurants in Canillas de Albaida, featuring local meat and fish. If you are looking for a wider selection of restaurants head towards Competa where you will find Spanish paella restaurants and some international options.
Evenings in Competa are generally very relaxed and quiet with the few bars and restaurants surrounding the village square staying open into the evenings. For more vibrant nightlife, visit the nearby seaside towns of Nerja and Torrox Costa.
On the outskirts of Canillas de Albaida you will find a series of caves and grottos with eerie caverns and striking stalagmites. The largest and most well known are the "Cuevas del Agua" or "water caves" and "cueva del Conejo", cave of the rabbit".
The old village of Canillas de Albaida is characteristically Arabic in its small winding pathways, some of which are so steep they are almost vertical. It is advisable to leave your car behind so that you can wander through the narrow streets discovering old chapels and local tapas bars.
Walk to the top of the village and you will reach the historic abandoned temple "La Ermita de Santa Ana" built by the Arabs in the early 16th Century. From here you can witness fantastic views over the village and across the surrounding countryside.
