National parks

The Parque Natural do Alvão is Portugal’s smallest natural park, an area of 8000 mountainous hectares set between Vila Real and Mondim de Basto, around a 50 minute drive from Folgosa. If you enjoy nature and exploring and have a half day to spare, there are two official walks around the Parque.

Porto

Situated within an hour and a half drive, the colourful city of Porto is the second largest in Portugal, adorned with medieval relics, tall bell towers and baroque churches, this fascinating city is well worth a visit on your way to your villa. The birthplace of port, Porto has been a long standing mecca for wine enthusiasts, with many wine caves open for tastings. The historic centre, a Unesco World Heritage Site attracts many, with locals mingling on village style plazas lined with old storefronts.

Vila Real

The nearby city of Vila Real can be found within a 35 minute drive and offers a charming and interesting place for a day of exploration, with many quaint buildings housing an array of restaurants and shops.
