Caminha is a small port town located on the River Minho, towards the north of the Costa Verde. Historically a town of industrial importance and known for its exports, the town is now simply a pretty market town steeped in history and character. The main square retains several 15th and 16th century buildings as well as some delightful cafés and restaurants with tables and chairs outside on the cobbled streets. From Caminha, there are a number of great sandy beaches within easy reach; including the blue flag beaches of Modelo and Vila Praia do Ancora.

Enjoy some locally caught fish in the Costa Verde with plenty of supplies coming from the local fisherman, taste the fish grilled and freshly made with an array of different rices and vegetable sides. Most local restaurants serve both fish or meat platters, enough to keep all the family happy. Wash all these yummy delights down with some Vinho Verde or port which is specialist to the region.
Nightlife in Caminha is based around the picturesque main square where you will find restaurants and cafes with al fresco dining, perfect for watching the world go by.
A region full of vineyards, Costa Verde is the ideal place to visit if you enjoy good wine, home to the famous Vinho Verde wine.
If you are a football fan, why not visit the home stadium of FC Porto, the Dragao Stadium, with guided tours usually available a few times a day.
Separated from Spain by the River Minho, Caminha sits just a 30 minute ferry journey or a 20 minute drive across a bridge from the Spanish border. Ideal for those who wish to enjoy a day trip to explore the delights than Spain has to offer.
On the river
The Minho region is known by the more adventurous for the water sports on offer, from kayaking, canoeing and white water rafting. You will also discover the river beaches, where you can cool down in the fresh waters.
Viano do Castelo
Just 30 minutes from Caminha, known as the jewel of the Costa Verde, the city of Viano do Castelo is blessed with an appealing medieval centre, and being situated by the Rio Lima estuary means that there are some lovely beaches just outside of the city.
Vila Nova de Cerveira
Situated around 15 minutes inland from the town of Caminha, Vila Nova de Cerveira is a small, historical village with a good range of amenities. Due to its location on the River Minho, which separates this area of Portugal from Spain, there is also a small river beach.
