Wrexham Family (the eldest child is at school)
- This was our third and least expensive villa holiday but by far the best. The villa is decorated traditionally which appealed to us having holidayed in more luxurious villas previously. The layout worked well - having the pool directly outside the living room patio door was a godsend with young children. Location was fantastic; there is one villa across the dirt track - far enough away to give privacy whilst using the outdoor living area. Only a short drive to stunning beaches and divine restaurants.
Beds are never comfortable in villas, they are very hard, and pillows always seem to be made from cut-up pieces of foam. Luckily the previous occupants purchased pillows which we were glad to use! Wifi served its' purpose and was intermittent at times but didn’t cause particular problems despite having three young children with tablets.
The gardens weren’t as lush as other villas and there’s an extensive area of dust/sand towards the rear of the villa, but given the heat, we never spend much time walking around the gardens. We spotted a scorpion near the pool, and the gardener informed us the area is particularly renowned for them. The children made friends with a large chameleon in the garden which they looked out for each day. The view from the bbq during sunset is to die for, and one that we miss after returning home. There are far-reaching views of the quaint church in Porches over the vineyards. Grab a glass of Portugese Rose, and pop the langoustine on the bbq!
The kitchen was well equipped, I did quite a bit of cooking and BBQ’ing with the delicious seafood on sale locally. We received a welcome pack for free thankfully, as it wasn’t really that great. Water pressure is good which is unusual in a villa!
My only criticism re the villa is the bedroom upstairs which you’d imagine would be the master. However, it has two single beds (the double bed is downstairs), and really lacks a dressing table as the only mirror upstairs is in the bathroom and is quite high. It also lacks a heavy curtain despite having a net over, so mornings are early as the room gets light.
I also wish (as with all villa holidays) there would be a timetable visible for occupants detailing the day and time that gardeners/maids etc attend as it can be alarming opening up the shutters in the morning to see someone walking around in the garden!
Overall, a lovely villa that we would like to go back to.
