Italy - A Cosmopolitan Fusion of Culture & Cuisine

Rustic Renaissance, culinary classics and picture perfect regions make Italy an irresistible villa holiday destination. You'll be spoilt for choice with the Amalfi Coast's chic resorts, the beaches of Sicily and Sardinia, Tuscany's rural tranquillity, or unspoilt Umbria and Puglia.

  • Your Italy Villa Holiday

Have an unforgettable holiday in Italy with James Villa Holidays. Escape to the untouched countryside and enjoy a tranquil break away at one of our converted farmhouse villas. Visit local vineyards, discover amazing landmarks and treat your taste buds to the mouth-watering local food. We have a wide range of villas with private pools, pretty terraces and self-catering facilities that make an ideal base to explore Italy.

Perhaps a coastal resort is more to your taste, where you can enjoy sunny days at the beach with your family. Soak up the sun and take in the spectacular views, all the while experiencing Italian villa living at its best. Italy boasts some of the most beautiful beach resorts and arguably some of the best cuisine in Europe.

With frequent flights to Italy from most UK airports and flight times ranging between just two and three hours, it has never been easier to visit this fascinating country.

  • About Italy

Italy is a tempting mix of rich culture, exquisite cuisine, and spectacular scenery. Entice your senses with world class pizzas, astounding architecture, fashion conscious locals and the delicious fresh coffee that Italy is famous for.

With the rolling hills of Campania’s vineyards, the breathtaking architecture of Sicily, and the stunning coves of turquoise blue and glittering white sandy beaches dotted around the coastal shores of Sardinia, there’s a holiday destination for everyone in Italy.

  • When to go to Italy

Italy has gloriously warm summers with the hottest temperatures being in August, and it’s generally warm from May to September, too. If you enjoy the sunshine but don’t want to go during the hottest period then April to June and September to October are the perfect times for you to go. The climate varies quite a lot throughout the country, with weather being warmer the further south you go.

  • Cultural Highlights

Italy is blessed with many fascinating landmarks and interesting places to visit. For a piece of history, head over to the Valley of Temples, or Valle Dei Templi, in Sicily, a prime example of Ancient Greek art and design. Walk past detailed sculptures of historical and mythical figures, and gaze at the towering stone columns.

Take a glimpse into a Roman town that existed over 2,000 years ago. The ruins of Pompeii near Naples were covered by ash following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, leaving behind a fascinating, well-preserved archaeological site to explore.

Pisa is also worth a visit if you want to see the extremely famous leaning tower of Pisa. It is an impressive and remarkable example of Roman architecture as well as an iconic photograph opportunity.

  • Italy Holidays - Points of Interest

    • Unwind with a trip to the Boboli Gardens, in Florence. There you can take in the scent of the beautiful flowers, and admire the sculptures and water fountains scattered throughout the park.
    • See the stunning city of Florence and visit the many sites including the Duomo and the Galleria degli Uffizi.
    • Go shopping in Le Marche; explore the local markets for food and trinkets, or head to the Main Square in Ascoli Piceno, for a range of locally handcrafted products you can take home as souvenirs.
    • If you’re looking for the perfect day out, then make your way to Gurrida Lake in Sicily. Surrounded by a mountainous backdrop and lush green forests, it’s a great place for a hike, or a summer picnic.
    • For a truly beautiful natural sight, make the journey to Cascata delle Marmore, or Marmore Falls in Umbria. Watch as the water rushes through the emerald trees, and cascades into the pool of water – truly breathtaking.

COULSDON Family (the eldest child is at school)
Scopello town has a relaxed family-friendly atmosphere for a meal out, or a quiet drink, either in the busy square or at a restaurant or bar overlooking the sea. There are a few stalls/shops selling hand-crafted jewellery or other tourist-aimed goods but otherwise "night life" is a very enjoyable case of sitting back with an ice-cream, a ricotta cake and coffee or a glass of masala and people-watching. The area around the villa is not built up, but if you want zero development, you can walk into the national park and its beaches, as we did one day.
Italian drivers are risk-taking, erratic and pushy, compared with France or UK (where we have lived). You really do need to have your wits about you.

Lymimgton Family (the eldest child is at school)
Location of villa perfect for us (no neighbours), you could travel to other cities (Pisa, Lucca, Volterra etc) with ease by car and so beautiful and peaceful. Need a car to get around obviously.
Nothing bad - Initial finding of the villa quite difficult (last 10 mins of journey) as it’s 10 mins down a very bumpy, gravel track in the middle of nowhere. However, owner sent a google location which was needed. Not really a bad point though!
