The area surrounding Tolentino, between the Apenine mountains and the Adriatic coast, produces some really good quality wines. In particular, Rosso Conero, is a very popular rich red wine famously produced in this region. You can visit the local family run "cantinas" to tour the vineyards, see the production of the wine and even try it before purchasing your own bottle to take home.
Take a drive to the Sibillini National Park and spot local wildlife, birds of prey and wild flowers. In the middle of the park is Lake Fiastra a popular spot for a picnic and a swim during the summer months. Explore some of the smaller villages and hamlets within the park, perfect for experiencing the laid back Italian lifestyle and to sample some local cuisine from a traditional kitchen.
Le Marche is becoming very well known for its designer clothing outlets and the area around Tolentino is no different. Within a 30 minute drive of the town you can visit the Tombolini outlet, a sleek modern shopping outlet from the luxury Italian designer of the same name, and also a Prada outlet centre just outside of Civitanova Marche. Pick up a pair of designer jeans, a leather hand bag or a unique pair of loafers!
The old town of Tolentino is very pretty and well worth a visit. Sit in the central square in front of the clock tower (with three clock faces) sipping a coffee before wandering through the cobbled streets to the impressive Basilica of Saint Thomas, a Catholic church dating back to the 15th Century. There is also a weekly market held in the town on a Tuesday morning.
Visit the Medieval walled town of Macerata, walk the cobbled streets to the piazza in the historical centre and marvel at the impressive Palace, Cathedral and open air theatre home to annual jazz and opera festivals. After a day of sightseeing enjoy a drink and pastry in one of the town's trendy cafés and browse the boutiques.
