Syracuse, once a mighty city of Greek origin that is remembered in history as the city that conquered Athens, is well worth at least a days visit. Renowned for its many Greek and Roman ruins and monuments It contains a seemingly endless number of historical attractions and buildings and for those of more modern tastes there are numerous shops. Don't miss the "island" of Ortigia - accessed by a small bridge that leads into a labyrinth of narrow streets filled with trattorias and restaurants, and souvenir shops a plenty.
Rosolini was founded in 1713 and is built on a very exact grid system around its main square and the Cathedral of San Giuseppe, built between the XVIII and the XIX century. Other sights include the Fontana dei Tritoni in Piazza Masaniello and the Hermitage di Croce Santa.
