Those in search of a luxurious home from which to explore the relatively undiscovered region of Puglia will find an absolute gem in Villa San Marco. Beautifully designed and presented with great attention to detail, its two separate apartments offer both independence and convenience for two families holidaying together. Read More
Located just a few kilometres from the historic circular hilltop town of Locorotondo, the property is set within pretty, landscaped gardens brimming with shrubs and cacti. Constructed from the creamy-white stone so characteristic of the area, its elegance and charm are instantly engaging and guests can’t help but relax into the gentler pace of life here.
The villa’s two self-contained apartments have been immaculately laid with travertine tiles in soothing shades of ivory and honey. The mixture of natural wood and white-painted furniture is easy on the eye while occasional pieces of contemporary art add a splash of colour here and there.
The kitchen, living and dining areas in both are open plan, light and airy with wood burning stoves, flat screen TVs and CD and DVD players to keep you and your family entertained during your stay. Butter-soft Italian leather sofas and deep pile rugs create a cosy ambience, perfect for chilling out after a day’s sightseeing.
The kitchens are ultra-modern in style with gleaming cabinetry and the latest appliances so you can rustle up freshly cooked meals as and when you please. Each apartment has three bedrooms, most with en suites and all handsomely decorated. The bath and shower rooms are beautifully crafted with contemporary fixtures and fittings and stylish tiling.
The first floor apartment opens out onto a broad balcony overlooking the gardens, a wonderful spot for an aperitif or morning coffee as you ponder the day’s activities. On the ground floor, meanwhile, tall French windows lead out to the first of two dining terraces where a pizza oven is guaranteed to tempt guests out of the kitchen to enjoy preparing and tucking into some scrumptious Italian cuisine alfresco.
A stone pathway leads you to the delightful 12m pool with its stylish sun loungers, parasols and a chic canopied daybed on which to unwind. Next to the pool you’ll find an outdoor seating and a dining suite thoughtfully positioned under the shade of a charming brick and timber pergola complete with built-in barbecue and sink.
Locorotondo itself is a fascinating town, like a fairytale kingdom from a distance with its brilliant white townhouses sporting sharply pointed gables and the Church of the Madonna della Greca rising from the centre. Take a wander through the narrow, winding streets and perhaps try the local speciality, u tridde, a fresh pasta made with pecorino cheese and parsley, washed down with the area’s excellent locally produced wine, Bianco Locorotondo.
If you feel the need for some sand between your toes, it’s only 12 kms from the villa to the nearest beach and there are some lovely ones to choose from along this stretch of the Adriatic.
Villa San Marco certainly comes highly recommended for a truly special Italian villa holiday.
