Take a drive to the Sibillini National Park and spot local wildlife, birds of prey and wild flowers. In the middle of the park is Lake Fiastra a popular spot for a picnic and a swim during the summer months. Explore some of the smaller villages and hamlets within the park, perfect for experiencing the laid back Italian lifestyle and to sample some local cuisine from a traditional kitchen.
Just 45 minutes from San Severino Marche through the winding countryside, located in a Natural Park of the same name you will find the Frasassi Caves. This series of caves is the largest in Europe with the largest cavern being over 200m tall. There are three different tours to choose from, each takes you through the caves to see the stalagmites, stalactites and underground lakes.
Sit outside one of the cafes in the 18th Century square, Piazza del Popolo, and enjoy and Italian coffee, slice of fresh pizza or ice-cream. From here you can walk to a few high-street shops and boutiques as well as some good restaurants and trattorias. There is also a archaeological museum, a public art gallery and two churches to visit.
Visit the Medieval walled town of Macerata, walk the cobbled streets to the piazza in the historical centre and marvel at the impressive Palace, Cathedral and open air theatre home to annual jazz and opera festivals. After a day of sightseeing enjoy a drink and pastry in one of the town's trendy cafés and browse the boutiques.
