Situated close to the centre of the island and only 7km from Alikanas, this serene and sleepy countryside village is surrounded by olive groves, vineyards and farmland. A few local amenities can be found scattered around the village including a bar, and a tavern, whilst the main amenities and sandy beach can be found in Alikanas. Agios Dimitrios is located in a perfect place to explore the whole of the island, with Agios Nikoloas in the north being found within a 40 minute drive, Zakynthos Town within a 20 minute drive and Keri in the far south reached within 30 minutes.

There are several parades and festivals around Zakynthos Town.
Three Day Summer ...local event
This festival is organised by the district of Alykes and takes place once every year (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) in the month of July. This event is very popular and features musicians and artists performing concerts, opera, plays, dance and many more from all over Greece and Europe, not forgetting the shows put on by locals in their individual villages. The main event takes place in the church square in Katastari, there is also a small street market and stalls with freshly cooked souvlaki.
Celebrated at the church of St Pantaleimona this religious fair or panayiria, are popular all around Greece in the summer months. They are a festival for the name-day of a particular church or monastery and often take place in the area of the institution. Celebrations are bright and colourful with evening revels of eating, drinking and dancing. There are also vendors with their stalls selling an array of products.

Assumption of the...national event
On the 15th August every year, the Greek Orthodox Church celebrates the Assumption of Virgin Mary. Villages are decorated, festivals are held, traditional dances are staged and there is a generally a great festive atmosphere.
Saint Daylocal event
Zakynthians gather to honour their patron saint, St Dionysius. The festivities start several days before with a large outdoor bizarre set up at the bottom of Zante town, close to the St Dionysius Church. You will find a wide variety of souvenirs here from kitchen utensils to clothing, and at very reasonable prices. The main parade takes place on the afternoon of St Dionysius day where the body of the saint is marched through the streets attended by priests, soldiers and politicians. In the evening, there is a spectacular fireworks display and the whole town is buzzing with locals and tourists alike.
St Dionysios Daynational event
St Dionysios Day is an annual celebration of St Dennis, the patron saint of Zakynthos. A market selling clothes, souvenirs and household items is held in Zakynthos town and there is also a small fair. These celebrations usually last a few days but on 24th August there is a procession to St Dennis Church located on the sea front in Zakynthos town, the procession followed by fireworks and food being cooked and sold in the streets. In the smaller resorts and villages some shops do close on this date but they will remain open in the larger tourist resorts.
