Villas in Zakynthos

Zakynthos - a Greek Island rich in natural beauty - offers a fantastic setting for a villa holiday. Its impressive, long sandy beaches and crystal waters - some home to nesting sea turtles - are beautifully contrasted with traditional stone-clad villages hidden in the pine covered mountains. The animated beach resorts on Zakynthos found along the southern and eastern coastlines offer an array of restaurants, bars and watersports. Meanwhile in the west, spectacular sea caves and peaceful coves are surrounded by dramatic cliffs to offer tranquillity and seclusion.

Zakynthos - A Grecian piece of paradise

Named the ‘Flower of the East’ by the Venetians who once inhabited it, Zakynthos is an island beauty treasured throughout its rich history. Now it’s one of Greece’s most prized holiday destinations, and with our Zakynthos villas found throughout the island, it could soon be yours too.

  • Zakynthos Activities

Leisure pursuits, including cycling, hiking, horseback riding and nature trails, offer wonderful ways to enjoy the changeable Zakynthos landscape – from its rolling hills and olive groves to scented citrus orchards. A divers’ paradise, this Greek Island has an underwater world well worthy of exploration. On land, in between the sharp-edged rocks and protected white sandy beaches, you can watch the famous sea-turtles, native to Zakynthos, find refuge to reproduce. Paragliding, banana rides, pedalos and canoes are also available to help you cool off on your villa holiday in the dazzling sun.

  • Zakynthos History

Modern amenities are a feature of this Greek Island, but a long history steeped in tradition is also waiting to be discovered in Zakynthos. Beautiful orthodox churches, archaeological sites and Venetian castle ruins are dotted all around. Quiet villages and traditional stone houses line narrow streets, often perched in the mountains. Museums celebrate the Byzantine era and Greek literary works. Baroque and Renaissance architecture is also found all over Zakynthos, proudly maintained by its Greek Island native inhabitants.

  • Zakynthos Beaches

The superb beaches of Zakynthos are famed for their natural, unspoilt beauty, fine white volcanic sand and turquoise waters. A Greek Island full of coastline variations, you’ll find rugged natural beaches nestled in rocky formations and little private, pine-clad islets for total seclusion. To protect the habitat of the endangered sea-turtle, many bays forbid building work and nightlife. Sunbeds and parasols can be found in most villa holiday resorts, alongside a wide variety of watersports facilities, snack bars and tavernas.

  • Zakynthos Nightlife

Zakynthos has a great variety of night-time entertainment with something to suit every taste. In early evening, bars and outside terraces offer magnificent views out to sea – best enjoyed over a soothing cocktail. Later on, the livelier atmosphere and faster tempo found in Zakynthos is perfect for dancing into the early hours. Traditional tavernas and nightspots are found in smaller resorts, with amenities that appeal to all ages. Live music, cabaret and authentic Greek dancing are among the best attractions.

  • Zakynthos Holidays - Points of Interest

    • Take a boat trip round the island and explore the amazing blue-water caves and stunning Shipwreck Bay

    • At sunset, look out to sea and watch for Mediterranean monk seals from the tiny cliff-top hamlet of Kambi

    • Try the local ‘popolaro’ white wine and the honey-sweetened mandoláto nougat

    • Join a glass-bottomed boat trip and observe the nesting loggerhead turtles in Laganas Bay

    • Drive into the mountains and discover the traditional Zakynthian way of life at ancient towns and villages like Kiliomenos and Agios Leon.

    • Catch the ferry to neighbouring Kefalonia for the day and explore its many golden sandy beaches.

Beautiful beaches and walks. Variety of places to eat. Local people very hospitable and welcoming. The landscape was beautiful, contrast between the salt flats and the rolling hills.
Roads and driving was interesting. Rubbish! In most built up areas there was lots of rubbish and stuff just dumped - no rubbish was collected for the whole week we were there. Recycling - or lack of! Distressing to see so much wasted plastic.

Gerakas beach was stunning, Zakynthos town friendly and good selection of places to eat. For children the Waterpark and mini golf at Tsilivi were good. I would definitely return to the island but to a less touristy and more unspoilt area.
Overflowing rubbish bins everywhere, and some beaches suffered from a lot of rubbish washed up on them. The less touristy areas much cleaner. The roads are terrible so be careful if you hire a car. Drivers are crazy! Tsilivi - items in some of the shops or for younger eyes and not exactly displayed discreetly or hidden away.

A beautiful place to walk and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this fabulous island. The views we enjoyed on our walks were breathtaking and the flora and fauna were incredible. The quality of the food was always excellent and the people were the friendliest we have ever met.
We were disappointed with the amount of litter around the roadside bins. There seems to be very little refuse collection going on. It was not just tourist litter as there were fridges, mattresses and building waste, often in very remote locations. Also, you need to be aware that earthquakes are quite common. We were woken at 2 a.m. by a 6.8 magnitude quake which shook the house quite violently for 30 seconds. The modern houses are built to withstand it though so nothing to put us off another visit!

It was a very different holiday. The season was nearly over so we had to search for places that were still open. The beaches were deserted. Absolute heaven.. there was a huge thunderstorm and torrential rain, there was an earthquake. A kitten climbed into the engine bay and we only found him after a mountainous journey. We took him back to where we thought he climbed in. We had lovely food. After the first 2 days we had lovely weather. Total escape.
I banged my head more than once on the cooker hood. The shower was difficult to adjust to the correct temperature. The decorative bed hangings were pretty but in the way of the pillows. I struggled with my clutch control on the very steep drive way and the opening was situated on the apex of a very sharp bend and quite well hidden.
