The quaint village of St Remy de Provence is located amid attractive countryside 30 kilometres south of Avignon. Wonderfully traditional and picturesque, the village features narrow streets, shady squares, excellent restaurants, and small boutiques. The best way to soak up the atmosphere here is to stop and enjoy a leisurely coffee in one of the small pavement cafes. Vincent Van Gogh produced many paintings of this beautiful surrounding countryside. You’ll find plenty of opportunities for walking and cycling to explore the wonderful scenery.

Provencal cuisine, sea food, delicatessen
Nights in St Remy are fairly quiet with a good selection of bars and restaurants. Before heading off to dinner, learn how to play the traditional petanque, the Provencale ball game at the Sunset Petanque Apero
Market day in St Remy is Wednesday (morning), and this is a great time to visit, as the squares are taken over by stall-holders – it gets crowded but the market is colourful and absorbing, well worth a detour.
You cannot leave Provence without visiting one of the wyneries; Château Vignelaure, Château La Coste, Château Léoube, Mas de Cadenet, Clos Mireille-Domaines Ott, Château de Chausse... There is sonething for every taste!
Apart from gazing at lavender fields, you can also visit lavender farms and distilleries, attend lavender festivals at Sault and Valreas, and buy lavender products like oil, essences, perfumes, soap, etc. In Coustellet there is even a Lavender Museum exploring the history of the cultivation of lavender in Provence.
Les Gorges de Regalon : just beside Merindol, take a wonderful walk through a narrow canyon; the scenery, terrain, and views all make this hike extremely interesting - actually spectacular.
The Alpilles mountains: at the heart of a region with a unique diversity of landscapes, this unique area was classified as a Parc Naturel Régional
Les Baux is a spectacular rock plateau 250m up in the sky with views south over the Alpilles, and to Arles and the Camargue.
A tour around the Mont Ventoux gives you a different perspective of Provence, from the lavender country round Sault to the west, to the wine country and Roman treasures of Vaison la Romaine in the East, and the beautiful and little-known villages scattered in between.
Greaty number of activities and beautiful spots; you can canoe on the River Agens,or take a trip through the Verdon on an electric boat, cycle on the country roads of Provence or take a horserback ride through the hills...
Place Flavier is an archetypal St Remy square, with its fountain and plane trees, cobbled street and pleasing facades.
It is a short stroll to rue L’Estrine, where you will find the Centre d’Art Presence Van Gogh. This hosts art shows and has a permanent exhibition of van Gogh reproductions and letters. Note that there are no original van Gogh paintings here.
The Musee des Alpilles, home to ethnographic treasures to help visitors understand the landscape and the human impact on it.

Every village in Provence was built around a castle or some form of defensive structure, and many of them remain, in differing states, from a few walls to entirely preserved buildings. Some are privately owned and not open to the public, but some can be visited.
