Sensitively restored in traditional style with classic painted shutters at its windows, Villa Joucaline is unstintingly romantic. Its extensive grounds are teeming with ancient olive trees, slender cypresses and fragrant shrubs, punctuated by shady seating areas and a magical courtyard that’s simply perfect for long, leisurely lunches.
A large gated pool ensures instant refreshment even in the heat of high summer and it can be electrically heated at extra cost should you wish. Surrounded by manicured lawns and mature trees, it’s a wonderful spot to stretch out with a good novel and truly unwind.
The handsome stone-built house has been decorated with great care and attention to detail. The ground floor is light and airy, with crisp white walls and pristine terracotta floor tiles throughout as well as huge French doors that open onto the courtyard. Furnishings are comfortable and tasteful, with colourful artworks, cosy lamps and brightly patterned scatter rugs adding a homely feel.
The charming rustic style kitchen is well equipped with modern appliances. With the doors thrown open to the courtyard, guests can serve anything from a simple breakfast to a gourmet dinner beneath the trees, the abundance of fresh produce available in this area of Provence offering plenty of inspiration.
Two of the house’s five en suite bedrooms are conveniently located on the ground floor, one with its own patio doors leading to a pretty outside terrace. The other three rooms are on the first floor, two of which are accessed externally. All five are beautifully and individually styled, with handsome painted furniture and soft furnishings in summery shades of candy pink, coral and aquamarine. Their en suite bath or shower rooms are immaculately presented and fitted with high quality fixtures.
Spacious, well-tended gardens as well as a boules pitch allow for plenty of family games and even a little friendly competition during your stay. The aromatic lavender fields beyond the grounds add a deliciously Provencal touch to the stunning landscape, a particular joy for walkers and artists.
Just a couple of kilometres away lies the picturesque hilltop village of Joucas, peaceful and unspoilt with its narrow cobbled streets, old stone houses and traditional church containing superb Italian trompe d’oeil artwork. There are wonderful views from here across the vineyards and patchwork farmland to the mountains.
Joucaline is ideal for those looking for a luxurious retreat away from the crowds, yet it’s also within easy reach of dozens of other delightful villages around the gorgeous Luberon National Park area and just an hour’s drive from the historic riverside city of Avignon.
