The quiet village of Joucas is set on a hill surrounded by tranquil countryside and farmland. At Sault and Valreas, buy lavender products like oil, essences, perfumes, soap, etc. In Coustellet there is even a Lavender Museum exploring the history of the cultivation of lavender in Provence.
Les Gorges de Regalon : just beside Merindol, take a wonderful walk through a narrow canyon; the scenery, terrain, and views all make this hike extremely interesting - actually spectacular.
A tour around the Mont Ventoux gives you a different perspective of Provence, from the lavender country round Sault to the west, to the wine country and Roman treasures of Vaison la Romaine in the East, and the beautiful and little-known villages scattered in between.
Greaty number of activities and beautiful spots; you can canoe on the River Agens, or take a trip through the Verdon on an electric boat, cycle on the country roads of Provence or take a horserback ride through the hills...
Every village in Provence was built around a castle or some form of defensive structure, and many of them remain, in differing states, from a few walls to entirely preserved buildings. Some are privately owned and not open to the public, but some can be visited.
Provence is a great destination for a walking vacation. There are trails for people of all abilities, including many hikes which are very suitable for families with younger children.
