Family Holidays in France

A young family jumping in a lavender field in Provence

Postcard-perfect Provence

Provence is a playground for fun-filled family adventures. Nature rules the roost in this rustic and rural region, so it's no real wonder that these spellbinding scenes inspired so many legendary works of art. Feast your eyes on rolling fields of lavender, verdant vineyards, craggy calanques, ancient grottoes and gorge-ous ravines. Variety is the spice of life in the sought-after south, so whatever your adventure agenda looks like – there's likely to be an activity available! Adrenaline-junkies can get their thrill fix from white-water rafting and rock climbing, while low-key leisure-seekers can take a slow-paced stroll alongside gentle streams in secluded serenity.

Old-worldy towns are a trademark of Provence. History hunters and culture vultures alike will love wandering the maze of cobbled streets and sleepy stone buildings. A timeless echo reverberates through the impossibly picturesque villages, inviting visitors to soak in the irresistible atmosphere. There's no more authentic way to introduce the kids to France's elegance and charm.

Azure waters of Plage de l'Escalet at Ramatuelle

Classic Côte d'Azur

Beach days are a rite of passage for family holidays the world over. Between heart-warming snaps of those first steps on the sand and taking to the water with daredevil teens, there's a whole host of exciting experiences for you to share together. Teeming with Mediterranean charm and sparkling in 300 days of sunshine, just add sand and sea and you've got a recipe for Riviera relaxation.

Saint Tropez packs a punch in the form of Pampelonne beach, the glitz and glamour of the once traditional market town is the epicentre of classic Côte d'Azur. If you prefer less razzle with your dazzle, then neighbouring Ramatuelle is the answer to your beach day prayers. Plage de l'Escalet, the town's sandy sweet spot, is the crème de la crème of Riviera R and R. Left almost as-nature-intended, it's off the traditional tourist trail. Take to the seas with your little water babies for a stint of stand up paddle boarding or explore the world beneath the waves with a family snorkelling session. A handful of facilities are available, including toilets, showers and a snack stand, which keeps things carefree for parents who don't want to worry about forward planning.

Contrary to popular opinion, the Côte d'Azur caters beyond loved-up couples and glitterati – although there's plenty of luxury yachts and celebrity hotspots to swoon over. Cannes rolls out the red carpet once a year for its International Film Festival, but when it's taking time off from entertaining Hollywood A-listers, it makes a beautiful backdrop for family fun! Teens will love the iconic seaside stretch at La Croisette. Take a leisurely stroll along the 2km stretch, where you can window shop luxury boutiques that line the picturesque promenade. Be sure to swing by the Palais du Festival, where you can walk in the footsteps of your favourite movie stars. If that isn't one for the bucket list, we don't know what is! For younger members of your clan, there's a full time mini-carnival with an ornate double-decker carousel, toddler-friendly rides and adventure playground. If you're craving an old-school crowd pleaser, an ice-cream pit-stop is always a holiday hit!

Coastal paradise in Corsica

Caribbean-esque exploits in Europe? Sounds good to us! France's very own exotic island will have you and your offspring smitten in seconds. Whether you're after beach breaks or nature focused escapes, Corsica's got you covered. One of the tallest and greenest members of the Mediterranean, unleash your inner adventurer and conquer majestic peaks and plunging valleys. It might seem counter intuitive to head away from the jaw-dropping coastline, but one look at the rugged landscape inland and it'll be love at first sight. Corte sits between brooding mountains at the island's heart and is home to two glacier-formed gorges at the Restonica and Tavignano valleys. A hiking hub for families who like to put their best foot forward, amble besides tumbling rivers and through luscious forests. If any little feet get tired, cool off for a while in relaxing rock pools – nature really does soothe the soles!

UNESCO have one or two recommendations of their own, with the spellbinding Scandola Nature Reserve making a worthy itinerary addition. Fuse fun and discovery into one as you set sail around red-tinted sea stacks and rugged rock formations. One of Corsica's most mind-blowing landscapes, feast your eyes on craggy cliffs, grottoes, islets and jagged headlands. Seals and dolphins like to play in the pristine waters, so be sure to watch out for a sighting of the playful porpoise.

Islands are your go-to for an easy-going escape, and Corsica is no exception! Ideal for families looking to leave behind the fast-paced flurry of their daily routines, here's just the spot to spend some quality time together. It's common knowledge that carefree hearts come with sandy toes and you'll find yourselves spoilt for choice on this Mediterranean marvel. Blessed with almost 200 blissful beaches, the collection of coastal creations are every bit as flawless as Caribbean counterparts. Holidaymakers swear by pretty-as-a-picture Palombaggia and iconic Calvi beach, with its teetering ocean-citadel. Each one more beautiful than the next, it's almost impossible to tear yourself away from the towel after an unforgettable day spent on the sand. Congratulations – you've found the perfect island for your next family holiday!
