The largest subtropical wilderness in the USA, the Everglades protects an unparalled landscape, providing important habitat for numerous wildlife, many rare and endangered species, such as the manatee, American crocodile and the Florida panther. Around an hour and a half from Fort Myers, the Everglades is well worth a visit while in the Gulf Coast, with many tour options available, whether you want to make your own way there and explore the park by airboat or swamp buggy, or book one of the many tours on offer.
