Sveti Lovrec (Saint Laurence) is a small village located near the heart of Istria and close to Porec and Rovinj. The village take its name from its first church, which is still standing strong today! Although it is the Church of St. Martin that draws visitors. They come to see the largest Romanesque church in Istria, decorated with fascinating artwork. Sveti Lovrec is a sleepy village, with a pizzeria and a couple of traditional cafes. For a larger selection of bars and nightlife, head to the coastal cities of Porec and Vrsar.

Sveti Lovrec is very central within the Istrian region of Croatia, and so makes a perfect base for those who wish to explore other towns. Sveti Lovrec is situated almost equal distance apart from Buje and Pula, as well as being just a twenty minute drive from the charming coastal resorts of Porec, Vrsar and Rovinj.
There is a small circular part of Sveti Lovrec protected by walls originally built in the 10th – 12th century. Inside of these walls are some buildings of historical interest, including two churches.
The 'Municipal loggia' houses a rich collection of stones with monuments from Ancient times and the Romanesque period.
Sveti Lovrec has two churches found inside the old walls - The Church of St. Odoric and the Parish Church of St. Martin.
There is a tower found inside of the town wallks which is 17 metres high, the “fontanella” or defence tower.
Sveti Lovrec is home to an interesting goat sculpture. There is a similar one in Buje, from the same artist, Giorgio Celiberti.
Porec - A charming coastal town that lies less than 30 minutes from Sveti Lovrec by car. Its pebbly beaches are beautiful with inviting Adriatic waves lapping the shores. Those seeking culture will love Porec’s old town, home to an amazing basilica. Built in the 6th century, it is a recognised UNSECO World Heritage Site today.
