Istrian cuisine is very natural and simple, taking key ingredients fresh from the land and sea. If you want to sample something truly Istrian, try the prsut – a cured ham which all Istrian’s are proud of. The seafood is always fresh and delicious, and sample something rare and native – the Istrian truffle – usually used to flavour pasta and meat.
Opatija is a lively town with many shops, bars and restaurants on the seafront, as well as street entertainers. There are also a cocktail bars and nightclub, so there is enetertainment to be found for people of all ages.
For flower enthusiasts, be sure to visit St. James Park, almost 4 hectares of beautiful botanical gardens with around 150 different plant species.
The educational Ucka Nature Park is free to the public and is abundant with many species of flora and fauna.
Istralandia, located between Buje and Novigrad is an award-winning waterpark, with pools, flumes, entertainment and eateries. A fun day in the sunshine for all the family.
Opatija Oldtimer tour runs for free every Tuesday eveing during the month of July. In front of the hotel Milenij, the Liburnia Classic Club from Opatija wait with five historic vehicles to take guests for a free 25-minute ride around Opatija. A sightseeing tour of sorts with the pleasure of riding in a historic vehicle that nowadays presents a rarity. The guests of Opatija may enjoy this offer in the period from 7:30 p.m. till 10 p.m.

Created in 1956, in Opatija there is a great famous sculpture called the "Girl with a seagull" located on a cliff by the sea.
The fountain Helios and Selena, set in the park opposite the church of St. Jacob was sculpted by Hans Rathautskog and represents the Sun and The Moon

Opatija Jazz Fest...local event
For many years now, the Liburnia Jazz Festival has been a joy for Croatian and international jazz lovers. On the first weekend in July, it presents established jazz musicians, world-famous artists or promising young musicians whose talent has not yet been internationally discovered. During the festival, jazz music can be heard all over the town, from various terraces and even from the sea, more precisely from the popular "Jazz Boat" that sails along the coast. The highlight of every festival day is the concert by a famous jazz star in Opatija's Open Air Theatre.
Chocolate Festivallocal event
Local confectioners come together in an open air theatre, where they present and sell their best products. There are workshops, lectures, tastings, concerts and exhibitions dedicated to chocolate.
