Buje is a beautiful hilltop town commanding excellent panorama views. Rich in history, the town developed from a Roman and Venetian settlement into a charming medieval town. It has retained many features typical of this region with its narrow streets and a central square, the old town is a fine example of a combination of medieval and venetian architecture. Visit the old town and the city walls, plus the 15th century tower. Great for those that enjoy truffles, many restaurants will have something flavoured with this delicacy on their menus. The area is also well known for excellent wines, try the Malvasia, Teran, Refošk and especially Momjan’s Muscat, which is unique in the world.

There are some superb restaurants, with great countryside views serving Istrian cuisine within the walls of Buje. Local Buje beer named San Servolo will complement the pasta, cured hams, and other traditional delicacies hand made in the area. Istrian cuisine is very natural and simple, taking key ingredients fresh from the land and sea. Local produce including honey and Istrian truffles can also be bought in the shops around this area.
Enjoy the views from the elevated position of the bars and cafes in Buje, spending the evening tasting the local cuisine and beer. Buje is at its liveliest during the grape festival in September. For further entertainment, ten minutes out of town and you will find a casino, or twenty minutes will take you to larger Umag, a bustling coastal resort with many restaurants and bars.
Franc Arman Vineyards and Winery, on the Narduci estate is a family run winery passed down through the generations. Established in the mid-1800s and set on twenty acres, they produce several types of grape and offer a wine tasting service.
Cycling enthusiasts will be delighted to see one of the 15 leisure bike rides that take place is Istria every year.

The tower over Buje is the Tower of St Martin, one of the few existing remains of the Venetian walls.
