Croatia’s most southerly region; Konavle, boasts beautiful contrasting natural surroundings – part of the Dubrovnik Riviera with Cavtat at its centre. Just 30 minutes’ drive from Dubrovnik airport, Cavtat is the largest tourist neighbourhood, with its sandy beach and many shops, bars and restaurants to explore. Cavtat is probably the most varied town to go out in the evenings when staying in the Konavle regrion. There are many restaurants and wine and cocktail bars whihc overlook the sea, and the town is bustling throughout the Summer months. Don't forget of course to explore the rest of the region along the coastline, where you will come across some hidden gems - traditional restaurantsor 'konobas' serving fantastic quality Dalmatian specialities.
Wine tasting in the Konavle Valley is a must, with it's picturesque vineyards traditionlly producing red, white and prosecco wines. A different and exciting way to visit these vineyard is by and organised tour or bike ride from the village of Cillipi, just a few minutes from the airport.
For an exciting means of transport, hop on the ferry from Cavtat to Dubrovnik for the day. There are also many other ferry excursions to Croatia's island and national parks.
Konavle is naturally stunning with a variation of landscapes. Backdropped by the Konavle mountain range, and pine forests, yet fronted with sandy beaches and the calm and glistening Adriatic sea. The region borders onto neighbouring Montenegro and Europe's most southerly fjord.
The famous Medieval city walls of Dubrovnik is UNESCO-protected and one of Croatia's most upmarket and most visited towns. The old town is pedestrianised and full of lively squares where you will be entertained both day and night.
Set between two lovely bays, Cavtat is a small, but very popular town in the Konavle region, originally a fishing port and now popular amongst tourists and the wealthy, with huge yachts along the harbour to admire. Like a mini Dubrovnik, the narrow cobbled streets are lined with interesting boutiques and good restaurants.
The Kornati National Park is made up of 12% of all of Croatia's islands (around 1200 of them!). Sailors are particularly attracted to them, sailing out to a peaceful and private hideaway. There are many boat excursions that can be taken along the Dalmation coast which will explore these islands.
