The small town of Podstrana, just a 15 minute drive from the center of Split, sits on a 6km stretch of beautiful sandy beaches, surrounded by a varied terrain of coastline, mountains and lush Mediterranean vegetation. The pretty town is well known amongst tourists for its delightful cuisine, offering local wine, olives and typical Dalmatian specialities which can be sampled in one of the local restaurants. Rich in culture, Podstrana is dotted with historical churches and castles and ancient stone buildings.

Dalmatian food is fresh and wholesome and the selection of fresh seafood is always vast and delicious. There are some great pizzerias in this area, taking some Italian influence. Nearby Split is reknowned for it's distinctive olives and juicy peaches. For true local dishes, a Dalmatian restaurant called a 'Konoba' must be visited!
There are some great relaxed bars located by the beach in Podstrana, where you can enjoy a fruity cocktail whilst the sun is setting. For a livelier nightlife and additional entertainment, head to the nearby city of Split.
The closest vineyards to Podstrana are in Primosten. Primosten is famous for it's vast vineyards, which are becoming a UNESCO protected World Heritage site. The wine is called 'Babic' and there are many organised excursions that can be taken to visit the vineyards. Be sure to try some at supper when in Dalmatia!
Being by the sea, there are many day trips that can be taken to the islands of Brac and Hvar.
Visit the cities of Dubrovnik, Split and Trogir, all very cosmopolitan and cultural cities to explore with heaps of character and historical monuments. There are frequent buses that run between Split and Podstrana.
The Kornati National Park is made up of 12% of all of Croatia's islands (around 1200 of them!). Sailors are particularly attracted to them, sailing out to a peaceful and private hideaway. There are many boat excursions that can be taken along the Dalmatian coast which will explore these islands.
