Like us, blogger Suzanne from The Travel Bunny lives and breathes holidays. But if your time away still seems a while away, what can you do? Panic not, here are her tips to keep that holiday vibe alive all year.

Suzanne from The Travel Bunny

These simple resolutions from Suzanne, blogger extraordinaire at The Travel Bunny, are ones that you will keep.

“Come January many of us think about making resolutions for the year ahead. Travel more, discover different cultures, try new cuisines… Sound familiar? But what about your last holiday? Did the memories fade faster than your tan? We all know that time away influences our wellbeing, so here are seven easy resolutions – the little things that you can do to hang onto that holiday feeling year round.

No. 1

Compile a photo book and let the memories linger. Include images of magical holiday memories, days out and precious moments. You’ll end up with a book packed full of feel-good family moments right at your fingertips.

No. 2

Set up the table in the garden; take a picnic to the park or barbecue on the beach. There’s nothing better than a long, lazy al fresco lunch with loved ones to keep that holiday spirit going.

Dining outdoors

Dining outdoors in the sun with those who matter most – is there any better feeling?

No. 3

Fiction goes hand in hand with travel and for most destinations there’s a great novel just waiting to transport you straight there. Choose a book set in your last holiday destination and immerse yourself. The tale will be more real as you’ll have seen the landscapes, towns and people for yourself.

No. 4

Recreate the flavours of your holiday with a family meal. Think about a favourite dish from your trip… Find the recipe, cook it up and enjoy it all over again while you talk about your holiday. No television, gadgets or phones allowed!

Don’t forget to buy a bottle of wine from the region to serve up with your meal.

No. 5

The anticipation of a holiday is almost as good as the trip itself. Plan for next year’s holiday and have a monthly family meal where everyone bring an idea to the table. It might be an activity, a new food to try or a mini-adventure that they’d like to embark on. It’s something to look forward to while counting down to the next holiday and the whole family will be thinking about the trip and researching it.

No. 6

Be a tourist in your own town. Head to a part of the city or nearby town you never get around to checking out. Join a walking tour or find a festival or museum that’s new to you. Take a camera and look at your home town with fresh eyes.

Get snap-happy in your home town and you might just be surprised by what you see…

No. 7

A scent or aroma can take us straight back to a place in an instant. The scent of jasmine on a balmy evening, a vanilla oil burner in a restaurant, or the perfume you bought at the airport and wore all week. Buy some for home, close your eyes and drink it in. Better still, light some candles in the bathroom, run a bath, dim the lights and soak up the aroma and peace in your own little sanctuary.

Sometimes it’s the little things that make a big difference to our everyday lives, so don’t let the sun go down on your holiday too soon. Keep the memories alive and let them influence your wellbeing all year round.”
