Resort: Volterra in Tuscany
This beautiful hilltop city occupies a breathtaking position overlooking vast expanses of the famous Tuscan landscape. Volterra is not as well-known to tourists as the neighbouring city of San Gimignano, but offers a wealth of historical and artistic treasures as well as some wonderful architecture. These include two beautiful castles, a well-preserved Roman amphitheatre, and a number of Etruscan sites. The town also boasts a beautiful domed cathedral built in a Romanesque style. Volterra is also famous for its alabaster crafts, which are for sale in abundance throughout the city. The surrounding valleys and countryside are perfect for touring by car, and the vineyards of the Chianti region are also not far away, where you can learn more about how this world famous wine is made.

Mr McInroy, Grays, April 2012
"This villa was beautifully rustic and very true to form of the area - a wonderfully peaceful setting in a prime location for exploring Tuscany. "
Mr Connolly, Nottingham, June 2011
"Just returned from our Honeymoon, had this Villas as our second week in Italy. The perfect place to relax & unwind after sightseeing in Rome! Shame that the hedge and olive trees restrict the views of surrounding Tuscan countryside when you are poolside, but a minor point really. Would definitely go back. "
Mr Byron, Stockport, June 2011
"beautiful and relaxing villa "
Mr Doherty, Wirral, September 2010
"The pool could have been a bit cleaner. There was quite a lot of scum marks around the edges. "
Miss Daubney, Swindon, September 2008
"Podere Coiano was a very attractive villa - but its big selling point was that it is one of the few detached, private villas with private pool for use by singles or a couple. I think there is a definite niche for this. Honeymoons, romantic getaways or singles wanting privacy and not having to pay a premium for unused rooms. The owner was very friendly and discreet.
Welcome Pack was not worth having.
No kettle.
Having a DVD player was great - except it had no remote control and no ability to select (so couldn't watch episodes if more than 1 one on the disc).
Would have been nice to have pool heating option.
Sunloungers were all broken and there were no cushions
But the view was stunning, the area stunning and the villa was very attractive and a great size for 1 or 2 people. I would definitely recommend it. It would be perfect if minor gripes above could be addressed.
Flights were disappointing - on way out the flight was delayed as a different plane had to be used and there was 2 hour delay on the way back.
Was upgraded from Fiesta to Fusion but did not feel like an upgrade as the Fusion was a 1.4 diesel and drove like a tank, it was dirty and the handbrake was not very reliable, especially on steep Tuscan hills! Would have preferred a nippy Fiesta to be honest.
I don't do many S/C holidays - would be nice to have a bit more guidance as to what to bring along, i.e. a few dishwasher tablets, small bottle of washing up liquid etc so as to avoid the expense of having to buy a whole thing locally. I ended up buying washing up liquid, foil, hand soap etc and leaving most behind. "
Mrs Drummond, Northampton, July 2008
"The most wonderful villa in a magical setting, providing us with a fantastic relaxing holiday. "
Mr Eades, London, May 2008
"Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Wanted to book the same villa again for September but sadly it was already fully booked! "
