Turkey's mosaic museum attracts 60,000 visitors
Cultural enthusiasts may want to book a Turkey villa holiday and discover more about the country on a trip to one of the nation's most prestigious museums.
The Zeugma Mosaic Museum in Gaziantep opened last summer and has gained worldwide recognition for its collections, according to GoTurkey.com.
Between its unveiling on July 19th and the end of 2011, the institution welcomed 59,610 visitors.
As well as displaying mosaics, the museum also serves as a Science Centre and Restoration Centre of the tiled artwork.
It houses first time mosaics from the ancient city of Zeugma, as well as creations from the early eastern Roman period following the third century.
With a 7,000-square metre exhibition space, it has taken the title of the world's largest mosaic museum from the Bardo Museum in Tunisia.
Among the items on display in the institution are 35 mosaic panels, 500 square metre-wide creations and the famous 150cm-long bronze Mars and Aphrodite statutes.
