Rent a Menorca villa to celebrate Sant Marti
People looking forward to a Menorca villa holiday in July will have the opportunity to experience a long-standing tradition on the island.
The ever-popular fiesta of Sant Marti will take place in Es Mercadal during the third weekend in July.
One of the most famous aspects of the festival is a show featuring horses that dance and prance to the rhythm of traditional music.
The animals have braided manes and are ridden by people in elaborate attire featuring all sorts of decorations and flags.
Menorca villa guests will be able to gather in Es Mercadal at the beginning of the weekend to see the festival's official opening ceremony, which is attended by the mayor.
The festival dates back to medieval times, when members of religious brotherhoods would ride horses and take part in other celebrations to pay tribute to Sant Marti.
Holiday makers can also arrange trips to some local landmarks and historic sites during a visit to Menorca.
One popular attraction is the Fortress of Isabel II in Mahon, which was built between 1850 and 1875.
