Explore Illa del Rei on a Menorca villa holiday

People planning a Menorca villa holiday over the coming months might be interested in paying a visit to Illa del Rei, an island near the port of Mahon.

The Balearic Islands tourist board has highlighted a number of attractions that visitors can see on the island, including the ruins of a basilica that has been dated back to the sixth century.

These remains indicate that the island was inhabited in ancient times.

A mosaic measuring approximately 32 square metres was discovered in January 1988 and is now thought to be one of the few artefacts from the building still in existence.

The item is now on display at the Museo de Menorca in Mahon.

Holiday makers who take the opportunity to visit Illa del Rei during a Menorca villa break will also be able to keep an eye out for a unique species of lizard that is found on the island.

Other locations worth visiting during a Menorca holiday include the town of Ciutadella and the church of Santa Maria in Mahon.
