Book a Menorca villa holiday for one of 2010s best bets
Those hoping to enjoy one of the best possible holiday breaks in 2010 would do well to book a Menorca villa holiday.
The Balearic island was recently selected on a list of the top 31 destinations to visit this year, according to the New York Times.
It was praised as the "quiet sister" to Ibiza and Mallorca, offering a much more tranquil holiday experience.
Because the whole island is a Unesco Biosphere Reserve, it has also avoided the overdevelopment that has blighted some parts of Spain.
"That means miles of beaches - some 120 of them, in fact - with fine sand and rolling dunes," the newspaper said in its guide.
"Even the island's sun-bleached towns - Mahón and Ciutadella, each combining elements of their British colonial heritage, Moorish roots and modern Spanish identity - are more peaceful than their Majorcan equivalents."
The New York Times also praised Menorca's eco-diversity, which extends to lush forests, deep gorges, salt marshes, hillsides and rocky coastlines.
Anyone enjoying a Menorca holiday will also want to visit the island's local shops, which specialise in fine leather goods, pottery and jewellery.
