Holidays to Spain offer some of Europe's 'best' self-catering

Cheap holidays in Spain offer families access to some of the best self-catering options Europe has to offer.

This is according to travelsupermarket.com, which said that Spanish self-catering accommodation is among the best in the world thanks to the number of facilities on offer, including activities and restaurants.

Travel expert at the website Bob Atkinson said that self-catering in Spain can represent "very good value for money" for families holidaying overseas.

"Spain, France, Greece and Portugal offer a range of styles of accommodation from a villa all the way through to a small apartment," he explained.

"Also there are usually lots of local supermarkets and places to eat out."

Mr Atkinson went on to say that self-catering prices in these countries, plus the cost of flights and eating out, can rival the price of all-inclusive deals elsewhere in the Mediterranean.

Recently, travel website Skyscanner named Spain as the most popular country for British holiday makers.

This is in spite of fears that the exchange rate could put people off, although this is something that has failed to materialise.

Five Spanish cities made the website's top ten searched-for destinations in its January 2010 flight trends report.
