Holidays to Mallorca 'in demand during 2011'

More people have sought trips to Mallorca villas in the past year than what was achieved in 2010, if new figures are anything to go by.

See Mallorca reports that tourist numbers at Palma de Mallorca's Son Sant Joan airport were up 7.6 per cent when put in relation to 2010's corresponding statistics.

Foreign tourists represented the bulk of people taking holidays to Mallorca, with 16.5 million individuals travelling on international flights into Palma during 2011.

Such a number is a 10.6 per cent year-on-year increase, with another 6.2 million people opting for domestic flights into Mallorca – a 0.5 per cent boost.

Jose Manuel Soria, the minister for tourism in Mallorca, backed the figures by acknowledging that the number of foreign tourists visiting the Balearic Islands jumped by 10.4 per cent in 2011.

The research comes soon after a study undertaken by Jet2holidays revealed that 30 per cent of people are hoping to base their main vacation of 2012 in Spain, with Mallorca proving one of the most popular destinations in the country.
