See 'iron men' in action on a Lanzarote holiday
People who enjoy watching live sporting events will find something to interest them on a Lanzarote holiday this year.
The Canary Islands Ironman Triathlon will set off from Club La Santa in the Tinajo district on May 22nd.
Athletes from all over the world will travel to Lanzarote to take part in the gruelling challenge, which decides 60 places for the Ironman World Championship.
Competitors start with a 3.8km swim, which is followed by a 180km bike ride and a 42km run to finish.
While a triathlon might be a bit too strenuous for the majority of people planning a Lanzarote villa break this year, the island does offer plenty of opportunities to try sports that are more relaxing.
Popular watersports on the island include windsurfing, scuba diving and jet-skiing.
Visitors can also go exploring to see the sights in areas such as Timanfaya National Park, a volcanic region in the south-west of the island.
