Lanzarote villa guests 'will enjoy local cuisine'

Food lovers planning a Lanzarote villa holiday this year have been urged to take the opportunity to try the island's cuisine.

In a travel article published in the Financial Times (FT), writer Miranda Green revealed that visitors will eat "unexpectedly well" in Lanzarote, despite the fact that the island has a dry, volcanic landscape.

She revealed that the hard work of local farmers means there is a range of natural produce to enjoy on the island.

Ms Green recommended having Sunday lunch on the beach, a meal that could begin with a local speciality known as limpets 'al mojo'.

All meals on the island are served with two sauces known as 'mojos', which come in terracotta dishes and often have differing flavours.

One option recommended by the FT writer is combining grilled monkfish with the green 'mojo', a sauce often served as an accompaniment to seafood or poultry.

As well as sampling the local cuisine, Ms Green urged people planning Lanzarote holidays to see installations such as Monumento al Campesino, which were placed on the island by the artist Cesar Manrique.
