Orlando holidays 'top summer option in US'

People taking summer breaks in the US still rate Orlando holidays as their favourite option, according to research.

The American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) carried out a survey of its consultants to identify their most popular summer destinations.

Orlando topped the list with a 17.7 per cent share of responses, finishing ahead of Las Vegas, San Francisco, Miami and Los Angeles, which completed the top five.

The survey also covered the most popular states, with Florida ranked first with 24.5 per cent of responses owing to the strength of cities such as Orlando, Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Tampa.

Chris Russo, president and chair of the ASTA, said the top US summer holiday destinations have "remained relatively unchanged for many years".

Brits planning a Florida villa holiday this year can head to Orlando to visit some of its world-famous attractions, such as the Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Studios and SeaWorld.

Holiday makers can also arrange accommodation on the state's Gulf Coast, which is famous for its luxurious climate.
