Algarve 'a value-for-money destination'
The Algarve has been noted as one of the best places for families to enjoy a cheap holiday this summer.
Writing for the Daily Telegraph, Gill Charlton explained how Portugal is "particularly attractive" in these "tough financial times", as it offers some of the best-value package vacations.
"The Algarve will always be the main attraction – it's still hard to beat for a family holiday, thanks to its safe sandy beaches and well-equipped modern villas with pools," she stated.
Individuals planning to visit the destination may want to consider taking a daytrip to Alentejo, which was noted as having a seascape similar to that of Cornwall where fishermen cook sardines on the beach.
Alternatively, Ms Charlton suggested exploring this year's European Capital of Culture, Guimaraes, which is home to a host of historic buildings.
Readers of Today's Golfer magazine recently named the Algarve as the best value for money golf destination in Europe.
