Visit an 'incomplete beauty' on an Umbria villa holiday
The church's first stone was reportedly laid in 1345. Building continued until at least 1587 and was never completed, as can be seen by the building's incomplete exterior.
According to Perugia Online, the pink and white stone decoration on the exterior facades was lifted from the Cathedral of Arezzo in the early 14th century but was only finished "on the lateral facade facing the Fontana Maggiore" and this lack of completion only adds to its mystique.
Holiday makers who choose to stay in the resort of Tuoro Sul Trasimeno will also find a place that is dripping in history - with Hannibal defeating the Roman army just outside the village in 217BC.
Tuoro Sul Trasimeno is ideally located to discover the delights of San Lorenzo in Perugia and the glorious Lake Trasimeno.
