See the 'painted Umbria sky'
Between April 30th and May 3rd, the international kite festival - Coloriamo i Cieli - opens on the shores of Lake Trasimeno, according to Whatsonwhen.
Held every year and open to everyone from holiday makers and amateur flyers to experts with expensive and extravagant flying machines, the event takes place in the grounds of Castiglione del Lago's former airport.
The site says that the high points at the festival are the days of free flying but there are many other things to keep people entertained, such as "the kite exhibition, hot-air balloons, a film competition, trekking and mountain bike events".
Anyone renting a villa in the tiny Tuoro Sul Trasimeno will find themselves close to the action and the lake, which is described a haven of harmony and serenity.
