Vasari Corridor opens to public

The walkway, which was built in the 16th century by Giorgio Vasari, is famed among visitors to Florence for its array of artistic treasures.

Those who pass down the corridor - which links Palazzo Vecchio to Palazzo Pitti - will be able to view a range of portraits that have rarely been seen.

Strict regulations governing access to the passage have been lifted, allowing the public to view one of the gems of the Medici family estate, the Florentine reports.

During opening hours, only 20 visitors at a time will be allowed to take in the precious paintings.

The attraction is now taking bookings and will keep its doors open until December 31st.
